Dogs Trust care for hundreds of dogs every year – but we are increasingly aware that dogs are surrendered because they have developed behaviours their owners find difficult to live with.

Training is a vital element of puppy ownership. By using positive training methods, you can ensure that your puppy develops into a polite and confident dog.

We want to help dog owners to form a life-long bond with their puppies, better understand their dog's behaviour and avoid the common pitfalls during the puppy years that can lead to problem behaviours in adulthood.

We offer puppy management courses designed by our Dogs Trust Experts to support you on the beginning of your training journey with your new pup. The cost is included within your adoption fee.

Coming soon: Dog School's new puppy training programme...

We're excited to be launching two brand new training offerings for puppies and owners in January 2025:

  • The Puppy Management Course
  • The Puppy Training Course

Here at Dogs Trust we are super aware of how important training is when it comes to puppy ownership. We all want to help our puppies develop into dogs who are friendly with people and other dogs, as well as being confident and calm no matter the environment.

Our new puppy training offering will launch in January 2025. Keep an eye on this page for more information. In the meantime, if you have any questions you can always reach us by email.

Our approach

At Dogs Trust we train dogs using reward based methods, and do not advocate the use of any training equipment which changes behaviour by causing pain or fear in dogs.

Dogs which are trained with rewards enjoy learning - they are a partner in the training sessions and often 'offer' new behaviours to see if they get a reward.

Reward based training works to change behaviour and enhances the bond between dog and owner.

We also make sure you get the support and resources you need to help you in our classes and beyond. These courses include access to our owner support hub to enable a strong start to your training.
